The Lab oratory

THE LABORATORY – GET HANDS-ON WITH SCIENCE

In the Laboratory, you can explore fun, hands-on experiments together – from rockets to everyday chemistry.

Build a rocket using a bicycle pump. Test the acidity of liquids from the fridge with red cabbage. Or program a mini robot to navigate the sharp turns of an obstacle course.

The Laboratory is Experimentarium’s newest hands-on experience for families – a lively space where curiosity leads the way and science comes to life.

Together with our friendly staff, you explore, build and experiment with everything from robots, paper planes and rockets to exciting activities in technology, chemistry and design. We’ll help you get started, but the discoveries are yours to make – at your own pace and side by side.

The Laboratory changes from week to week, offering new themes and activities each time you visit. One week you might be coding robots, the next building and launching rockets, and another exploring colour blindness.

What can you do in the Laboratory?

Robots

Code LEGO® SPIKE Prime robots and mouse robots, then put your skills to the test. Can your robot make it through the obstacle course with its tight turns and tricky gates?

Planes and rockets

Build your own rocket using paper and a bicycle pump – then count down and launch it using air pressure. Or dive into aerodynamics by building and testing different paper planes, using our templates or inventing your own designs.

Everyday chemistry

Unleash your inner kitchen chemist. Make an indicator liquid from red cabbage and test the acidity of common household liquids.

Small experiments

Get hands-on with a range of short, fun experiments inspired by the live demonstrations our staff present every day at Experimentarium.

Climate smart

Explore weather and climate through playful, hands-on experiments. You can also design and build your own wind turbine and learn how engineers work with ideas, design, testing and materials.

Knowledge games

Try our Ethics Game or Nature Perspectives Game. Younger visitors can enjoy hands-on matching games and discover, for example, what rhino poo looks like.

A closer look at the small stuff

Take a closer look at the world around you using microscopes, stereo magnifiers or handheld magnifying glasses.

The Laboratory’s opening hours

The Laboratory is located on the 2nd floor of Experimentarium and is open daily from 10:00 to 16:00.
